The job of your turbo downpipe weld-on flange is to mate your turbo to your downpipe using a gasket. When bolting the turbo to the downpipe, the mating faces must be perfectly flat to ensure you don't suffer from exhaust leaks. Before assembly, we recommend checking for warpages or defects in all flanges.

Exoracing Turbo Downpipe Weld On Flange Installation Guide:

Here's a step-by-step guide to help you install your new turbo downpipe flange. Installation of your turbo downpipe flange requires welding and fabricating skills. If you are not 100% confident in these skills, we recommend a professional installation. 

(These instructions are based on the assumption you are creating a new downpipe for your vehicle) 

1. Start by removing your old downpipe from your vehicle; this will require removing the hardware and bolting the turbo to the downpipe and the downpipe from the centre exhaust section. (You may also have an o2 sensor to deal with)
2. Use this opportunity to check the condition of the downpipe flange on your turbo, ensuring it is free from warping and defects. 
3. Clean off the coating on the new flange around the area that will be welded.
4. Using two or three bolts, fit your new flange to your turbo. Finger tight here will be enough, as we will later remove the flange again. 
5. Grab the pipe from which you will make your new downpipe, measure its length, and offer it up to your new flange to see what angles need to be cut. 
6. Once you're happy with your downpipe section, use a few tack welds to hold the downpipe to the new flange so you can remove it from the car in one piece, knowing you already have the correct angle and orientation. 
7. You can now go ahead and complete the necessary welding. 
8. Check the flange to ensure it wasn't overheated and warped during welding. 
9. Reinstall your downpipe to the car with a new gasket and tighten all the hardware to the manufacturer's specs using a calibrated torque wrench. 
10. We recommend running your car through a couple of heat cycles, and after it has cooled down for the final time, recheck all hardware is still at the recommended torque values. 
11. You can now take your car for a well-deserved drive. Remember to take photos and tag us @exoracinguk
