Scotts Insane 430whp K24 Turbo Honda Concerto

Scotts Insane 430whp K24 Turbo Honda Concerto

Posted by Matthew Marks on 2nd Aug 2024

We had Scott come down to the Exoracing HQ and show us his mad K24 turbo Honda Concerto, which blew my mind at 430whp!

Scott is no stranger to the Honda Concerto, having previously built a crazy turbo AWD B-Series turbo Concerto, he bought another one, K-swapped it, and added a massive turbocharger!

If you would rather watch the video when Scott and I went out ripping, watch the video below and subscribe to our YouTube channel while you are there for more crazy builds in the next few weeks.

Most of these Honda Concertos are now owned by enthusiasts or the older generation, so you be incredibly surprised to see one in this unique werthers original beige and such power on the street.

This is why we aptly named it the werthers grandad wagon, haha! Regardless, this is one hell of a build, and one of our favourite performance cars on the road right now.

If you have watched the video above, you can see how terrified but excited I was when he smashed the throttle and bounced it off the rev limiter. Being in this kind of sleeper at 430whp is a whole new sensation and something you definitely don't expect!

The specs of this car are also crazy, which makes this build even more unique, especially when you realise how much time, effort and money he has spent to get it where it is today.

Let's start with the engine. He started by taking a K24a out of a Honda Accord, stripping it down to bare bones, forging it from top to bottom, and using CSS to strengthen the block.

CP K24 pistons and Manley rods make a great, strong combo, and this engine should last for years. The head is also built using Skunk2 valve springs and titanium retainers, and aftermarket valves to make it just as strong.

This allows the engine to rev to the limited all day long without problems, which is what a K24 needs!

The engine management is just as spicy and definitely needed for the most control over the sensors and boost pressure as much as possible.

It uses a Haltech Elite 1500 standalone ECU with their Haltech CAN lambda wideband and a beautiful Haltech IC-7 digital dash to add a modern touch and tie everything together.

This combination allows Scott to read all of the engines information in real time, and for the money they are currently one of the best aftermarket ECU options out there.

He has also added loads of extra sensors, which the Haltech system handles incredibly well for the best readings possible and safety features.

He decided to upgrade to a twin plate Extreme clutch for the transmission side after wearing down the old stage 4 clutch he had had for a few years. He also added an Mfactory helical LSD with a 4.3 final drive to get the most grip possible.

You can tell when you are in the car it pulls incredibly well being a K24 turbo, and when you want it to grip, it does just that!

On the shifter side, he opted for a beautiful Hybrid Racing DC5 short shifter in black with a matching Hybrid Racing Maxim gearknob, which suits the interior really well. If you have ever a Hybrid Racing short shifter, you know how much tighter and more precise it makes the shifts!

Also, as it fits so perfectly in the centre console, and with the range of adjustment options for perfect shifts, it was a no brainer.

For the turbocharger conversion, he went for a Pulsar 6262 turbo with a 1.01 exhaust housing, a 44mm wastegate, and a Hermfab custom priority wastegate manifold to reduce the chance of boost creep.

As you can imagine, for heat management, he also went for a shiny Exoracing Carbon Fibre T4 turbo blanket to keep the temperatures down and utilised our Exoracing gold reflective Velcro sleeving and Exoracing heat reflective tape to protect vulnerable components.

For the exterior, he has opted for the unique grandad beige paintwork, with a perfectly matching show plate and rocker with a flush spark plug cover! This is by far my favourite part of the build, and Adam at Wyatt's Paint and Body did a perfect job on the rocker cover.

Moving on to the wheels and tyres, he is running a set of Rota D154 in silver, 17x8 ET35, and Accelera 651 sport xtra 235 45 17 front 215 40 17 rear to hold down the power of the mad K24 turbo.

One of the things I love about the car is the stock steering wheel. When you are in the car it's such a strange feeling seeing a Haltech ECU in front of you, a Hybrid shifter and digital dash, but running a bone stock 1990 Honda steering wheel.

It definitely works with the theme of the car, though!

If you have watched the video at the top of this page, you will know how much fun we had filming this. All I could do was laugh and shout flames when the k24 turbo screamer was open.

The K24 turbo conversion in this car is possibly the perfect combination, and although the car gets loads of love, it makes it even more special when you appreciate the effort that goes into building something like this.

I've had many very long conversations with Scott about the future of the car, and for right now he is going to enjoy it, as the build has been a long time coming.

As we all know, though, upgrades are bound to happen, so when he is ready, next on the list seems to be a set of bigger brakes. Even when we were out, he was starting to get brake fade due to the sheer power of the car.

I also tried convincing him to AWD the car, but you'll have to check this space on that one!

Hopefully, you guys love this mad K24 turbo Honda Concerto as much as I do. Check out our other customer car features, which we will do in the future.

Also, since the time of writing this, we have now started our own 4wd civic build, click the link to find out if we managed to 4wd swap the Civic in 24 hours!

We hope to do one a month, so if you are interested in a feature in our blog section or YouTube, please get in touch.

The more unique the build, the better!
