Choose The Right Heat Reflective Tape For Intake Pipes, Panels And Tight Spaces

The Exoracing gold and silver heat reflective tape is an adhesive-backed radiant heat barrier designed for intake pipework, airboxes, engine covers, bulkheads, transmission tunnels, inner wings and small panels. It is flexible, lightweight and easy to cut, making it ideal for awkward engine bay areas where a full heat sheet would be too large.

  • Best for: intake pipes, airboxes, small panels, covers, bulkheads and tight spaces
  • Available options: gold 5m x 5cm, gold 10m x 5cm, silver 5m x 5cm and silver 10m x 5cm
  • Material: polymer laminated glass cloth with gold or silver reflective foil face
  • Temperature rating: 450°C continuous and 1100°C intermittent
  • Application: cut into strips, peel the backing and apply to a clean non-porous surface
  • Included: heat reflective tape roll, microfibre cloth, squeegee and Exoracing lifetime warranty

Fitment: use tape when you need flexible strips for pipework, small panels or curved areas. If you need to cover a large flat area such as a bulkhead, floor panel or large airbox, use the Exoracing gold and silver heat reflective sheet instead.

Why Use Gold Or Silver Heat Reflective Tape?

Radiant heat from turbos, exhaust manifolds, downpipes and hot engine bay areas can quickly heat-soak nearby intake parts and panels. When that heat transfers into an intake pipe or airbox, intake air temperatures can rise and the engine has to work with hotter, less dense air.

Exoracing heat reflective tape helps reflect radiant heat away from the surface underneath. It can be used on intake pipework, airboxes, engine covers, bulkheads, transmission tunnels, fuel cell panels and other smooth surfaces that need a thin thermal barrier.

The tape format is useful because it can be cut into strips and worked around curves, bends and smaller areas. It is a better choice than sheet when you are dealing with narrow pipework, awkward shapes or small panels. For bigger areas, use our heat reflective sheet.

If the heat source is the turbo itself, reduce heat at the source with an Exoracing turbo blanket, then use reflective tape on nearby intake parts or panels. If you need to protect hoses, wiring or lines, choose silicone fibreglass heat sleeve or Velcro heat sleeve instead.

Which Exoracing Heat Protection Product Do I Need?

Product type Best use Choose this when
Heat reflective tape Intake pipes, small panels, covers and curved sections You need flexible strips for tighter or smaller areas
Heat reflective sheet Large panels, airboxes, bulkheads, floors and heat shields You need one larger cut-to-shape piece
Turbo blanket Turbocharger turbine housings You want to reduce heat at the turbo before protecting nearby parts
Exhaust wrap Manifolds, downpipes and exhaust sections You need to keep heat inside the exhaust pipe itself
Heat sleeve Hoses, wiring, fuel lines, brake lines and oil lines You need to protect a round hose, cable or loom

Heat Reflective Tape Installation Guide

  1. Clean and degrease the surface thoroughly with the supplied microfibre cloth. Isopropyl alcohol is ideal for removing oily residue.
  2. Make sure the surface is dry, smooth and non-porous before applying the tape.
  3. Plan the route before removing the backing paper.
  4. Cut the tape into strips using scissors or a sharp blade. For most installs, strips are easier to apply cleanly than trying to spiral-wrap the tape.
  5. Peel back a small section of the backing paper and line up the first edge.
  6. Apply firm pressure with your hand, roller or the supplied squeegee while slowly removing the backing paper.
  7. Work along the strip and press it down firmly to activate the pressure-sensitive adhesive.
  8. Check all edges are fully stuck down, especially around curves and joins.

For a full installation walkthrough, use our heat reflective tape and sheet installation guide. If you want the cleanest possible install on awkward panels, the Exoracing heat reflective tape installation kit is also available separately.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I choose gold or silver?

Both options are designed for radiant heat reflection. Choose gold for the classic motorsport heat-shield look, or silver for a cleaner, more subtle finish around the engine bay, airbox or interior panels.

Should I choose 5m or 10m?

Choose 5m for smaller jobs such as one intake pipe, a small airbox section or a few panels. Choose 10m if you are covering multiple pipes, larger intake routes, bulkhead sections or want spare tape for future heat-management jobs.

What surfaces can I apply it to?

Apply it to clean, dry, smooth, non-porous surfaces such as aluminium, stainless steel, painted panels, plastic airboxes and smooth covers. Avoid porous, oily, dirty or heavily textured surfaces because the adhesive will not bond as well.

Is this better than heat reflective sheet?

Use tape for pipework, curved parts, small sections and awkward shapes. Use heat reflective sheet for larger flat areas where one cut-to-shape piece will give a cleaner finish.

Can I use this directly on exhaust parts?

No. Heat reflective tape is for nearby surfaces that need radiant heat protection. For exhaust manifolds, downpipes or pipework, use Exoracing exhaust wrap.

Notes

  • The tape is rated to 850°F / 450°C continuous and 2000°F / 1100°C intermittent.
  • Do not install on porous or contaminated surfaces.
  • Clean and degrease the surface before application for the best adhesive bond.
  • Avoid tar and glue remover near the installed tape, as it may affect the adhesive.
  • Use reflective tape on nearby panels, covers and intake parts, not directly on exhaust pipes.
